北上左右(북상좌우)
황제는 '황제내경 소문 5운행대론'에서,“帝曰 善 論言天地者 萬物之上下 左右者 陰陽之道路 未知其所謂也”(황제가 말한다. 좋구나. 천지는 만물의 상하 좌우는 음양지도로 라고 했지만 아직 그 소위를 잘 모른다)
기백은,“岐伯曰 所謂上下者 歲上下見 陰陽之所在也 左右者 諸上 見厥陰左少陰右太陽 見太陽左太陰右厥陰 見太陰左少陽右少陰 見少陽左陽明右太陰 見陽明左太陽右少陽 見太陽左厥陰右陽明 所謂面北而定其位 言其見也”(이른바 上下는 歲의 위아래를 보여 주는 것이니 음양이 있는 곳입니다. 左右는 모두가 위에서 궐음을 볼 때 왼편이 소음이면 오른편이 태양이고, 소음을 볼 때 왼편이 태음이면 오른편은 궐음이고, 태음을 볼 때 왼편이 소양이면 오른편은 소음이고, 소양을 볼 때 왼편이 양명이면 오른편은 태음이고, 양명을 볼 때 왼편이 태양이면 오른편은 소양이고, 태양을 볼 때 왼편이 궐음이면 오른편은 양명입니다. 이른바 북쪽을 바라보면서 그 位를 定한 것이니 보이는 바를 말한 것입니다)라고 북에서 좌우를 설명한다.

黄帝在黄帝内经素问，五运行大论说：“好。天地是万物的上下，左右是阴阳的道路，不知道是什么意思。”岐伯回答说：“这里所说的上下，指的是从该年的司天在泉位置上的阴阳。所说的左右，指的是司天的左右，凡是厥阴司天，左面是少阴，右面是太阳；少阴司天，左面是太阴，右面是厥阴；太阴司天，左面是少阳，右面是少阴；少阳司天，左面是阳明，右面是太阴；阳明司天，左面是太阳，右面是少阳；太阳司天，左面是厥阴，右面是阳明。这里说的左右，是面向北方所见的位置。”这说明向北方所见的左右。
